Treatment of gums
Gum diseases can be broadly divided into gingivitis and periodontitis. The most common symptoms are swollen, sore or infected gums. While brushing, the gums may bleed and you may have bad breath. Early stage gum disease is known as gingivitis. If left untreated, it can lead to periodontitis. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to other problems such as cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. The main cause of gum disease is excessive plaque build-up on the teeth. Plaque contains bacteria, some of which can build up and irritate the gums.
Gum problems in general lead to bad breath and bleeding gums, which if left untreated can increase in severity.
In the past couple of decades, lasers have become popular in surgery, hair removal and eye procedures. Laser was first used in dentistry in the 1960s, with it becoming mainstream in 1994. Lasers used in the medical industry can act as a cutting instrument, as a vaporizer of tissue or in teeth-whitening procedures to enhance the effect of teeth-whitening solutions.
